“Today we served 161 Individuals and 69 families. We distributed all of the ground meat products, chicken, pork and processed fish along with hundreds of pounds of fruits and vegetables and dry goods. It was a very successful day. The extra ground venison helped ensure that everyone got some meat! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support!”

One Minute Here – The Next Minute Gone!
Jun 1, 2023 | News
Mid-Shore FHFH donated venison to Aaron’s Place in Denton, Maryland and we received a note of thanks which demonstrates the great need for meat by food banks:
We picked up a nice donation of venison. As soon as the truck was unloaded and the boxes of venison were placed on carts to be bought into the pantry, the people that were lining up at the pantry saw the venison and started asking if they could have any. We distributed maybe 12-15 boxes of venison before it was even fully placed in the pantry. It was like, one minute it was here and the next minute it was ALL gone. Once one person found out what we had, they told others and it all went – mostly ground in tubes, some steaks. And that’s my story – it was like it vanished without a trace!!! Thanks! – Cheryl Beulah, Executive Director, Aarons Place, Inc.

Farmer Directs America’s Farmers Grow Communities Donation to Local Hunger Relief Program
May 15, 2023 | News
- America’s Farmers Grow Communities, a Bayer Fund program, partners with farmers to provide grants to local nonprofits to help their communities.
- Through the program, farmers enroll for the chance to direct a $5,000 donation to a local eligible nonprofit organization of their choice.
- The America’s Farmers programs have given nearly $65 million to rural America since 2010.
Huron County, Ohio (May 15, 2023) – Local farmer Barb Eitle recently directed a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. FHFH will use the funds to help pay meat processing bills and program expenses associated with providing meat from donated deer and livestock to the needy. This grant will help the organization provide 6,500 servings of nutritious meat to food banks and feeding ministries in Huron County in Ohio.
“We are so thankful to Barb Eitle for selecting Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry to receive this support,” said Josh Wilson, FHFH Executive Director. “Her dedication to our cause is truly a blessing to the hungry of her county!”
Since 2010, the America’s Farmers programs have awarded nearly $65 million to nonprofits, aspiring ag students and public schools across rural America. Farmers are leaders in their communities, which is why America’s Farmers programs rely on them to help identify the worthiest causes.
Dedicated to making a difference in rural farming communities, the Grow Communities program asks farmers across the country to participate by nominating nonprofit organizations with resources to strengthen their local communities. Last August, farmers entered for the chance to direct a $2,500 Grow Communities donation to a local eligible nonprofit of their choice. Farmers have directed donations to food banks, emergency response organizations, schools, youth agriculture programs and many others that reflect the spirit and support the vibrancy of rural America.
“Bayer Fund is proud to work side-by-side with farmers to identify local eligible nonprofit organizations that are able to provide their residents with solutions that leave a lasting impact,” said Al Mitchell, Bayer Fund president.

FirstEnergy Foundation Provides Funds to FHFH in Maryland
May 8, 2023 | News
“Many hunters and farmers in Maryland remain unaware of the opportunity we provide for them to donate nutritious meat to feed hungry men, women, children and families,” said Josh Wilson, FHFH Executive Director. “This grant will help us generate greater awareness and participation so that we can feed more people.”
The FirstEnergy Foundation’s contributions to local nonprofit organizations help strengthen the social and economic fabric of our communities. Funded solely by FirstEnergy, the Foundation extends the corporate philosophy of providing community support. Backed by their vision to invest in transformative organizations that enhance the vitality, sustainability and diversity of the communities they serve, they support non-profit, tax-exempt organizations within the FirstEnergy operating companies’ service areas.
The FirstEnergy Foundation priorities:
- Improving the quality of life in our communities and supporting key safety initiatives
- Empowering our communities’ workforce development and educational initiatives
- Promoting local and regional economic development
- Supporting employee leadership and volunteer interests that align with our business interests
Protein and meat products are one of the top items needed by food banks. The expensive price of meat and its limited shelf life prevent it from being a readily accessible food item by food banks. The meat donated to the food banks and feeding ministries by FHFH will help provide much needed nutrition to people in need. On behalf of FHFH and those in Washington and Frederick County who struggle with hunger, we thank the First Energy Foundation for their generosity and support of our mission to end hunger.
Inspired by a passion for the hunt and compassion for the hungry, FHFH is committed to addressing the problem of hunger in America. Since 1997 the organization has provided over 22.1 million servings of meat to those in need in communities nationwide.
