Farmer Directs America’s Farmers Grow Communities Donation to Local Hunger Relief Program
May 15, 2023 | News
- America’s Farmers Grow Communities, a Bayer Fund program, partners with farmers to provide grants to local nonprofits to help their communities.
- Through the program, farmers enroll for the chance to direct a $5,000 donation to a local eligible nonprofit organization of their choice.
- The America’s Farmers programs have given nearly $65 million to rural America since 2010.
Huron County, Ohio (May 15, 2023) – Local farmer Barb Eitle recently directed a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. FHFH will use the funds to help pay meat processing bills and program expenses associated with providing meat from donated deer and livestock to the needy. This grant will help the organization provide 6,500 servings of nutritious meat to food banks and feeding ministries in Huron County in Ohio.
“We are so thankful to Barb Eitle for selecting Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry to receive this support,” said Josh Wilson, FHFH Executive Director. “Her dedication to our cause is truly a blessing to the hungry of her county!”
Since 2010, the America’s Farmers programs have awarded nearly $65 million to nonprofits, aspiring ag students and public schools across rural America. Farmers are leaders in their communities, which is why America’s Farmers programs rely on them to help identify the worthiest causes.
Dedicated to making a difference in rural farming communities, the Grow Communities program asks farmers across the country to participate by nominating nonprofit organizations with resources to strengthen their local communities. Last August, farmers entered for the chance to direct a $2,500 Grow Communities donation to a local eligible nonprofit of their choice. Farmers have directed donations to food banks, emergency response organizations, schools, youth agriculture programs and many others that reflect the spirit and support the vibrancy of rural America.
“Bayer Fund is proud to work side-by-side with farmers to identify local eligible nonprofit organizations that are able to provide their residents with solutions that leave a lasting impact,” said Al Mitchell, Bayer Fund president.

FirstEnergy Foundation Provides Funds to FHFH in Maryland
May 8, 2023 | News
“Many hunters and farmers in Maryland remain unaware of the opportunity we provide for them to donate nutritious meat to feed hungry men, women, children and families,” said Josh Wilson, FHFH Executive Director. “This grant will help us generate greater awareness and participation so that we can feed more people.”
The FirstEnergy Foundation’s contributions to local nonprofit organizations help strengthen the social and economic fabric of our communities. Funded solely by FirstEnergy, the Foundation extends the corporate philosophy of providing community support. Backed by their vision to invest in transformative organizations that enhance the vitality, sustainability and diversity of the communities they serve, they support non-profit, tax-exempt organizations within the FirstEnergy operating companies’ service areas.
The FirstEnergy Foundation priorities:
- Improving the quality of life in our communities and supporting key safety initiatives
- Empowering our communities’ workforce development and educational initiatives
- Promoting local and regional economic development
- Supporting employee leadership and volunteer interests that align with our business interests
Protein and meat products are one of the top items needed by food banks. The expensive price of meat and its limited shelf life prevent it from being a readily accessible food item by food banks. The meat donated to the food banks and feeding ministries by FHFH will help provide much needed nutrition to people in need. On behalf of FHFH and those in Washington and Frederick County who struggle with hunger, we thank the First Energy Foundation for their generosity and support of our mission to end hunger.
Inspired by a passion for the hunt and compassion for the hungry, FHFH is committed to addressing the problem of hunger in America. Since 1997 the organization has provided over 22.1 million servings of meat to those in need in communities nationwide.

Cow Donation Provides Over 500 Pounds of Meat
Jan 30, 2023 | News
When Tom Norman became the coordinator for Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry of Wayne County in Ohio, he talked about building more awareness for the ministry, and increasing the number of people they could help each year. One of his goals was to raise enough money to buy and process a cow to provide meat for hungry people outside of hunting season. The group had prayed about this for awhile and really hadn’t figured anything out.
One day while out hunting, Tom received a message from C.F. Ranch and Cattle Company with an answer to prayer – they wanted to DONATE a cow! Tom and the group say they have been amazed watching God work to feed the hungry of Wayne County through FHFH.
Thanks to this cow donation from C.F. Ranch and Cattle, FHFH distributed over 500 pounds of hamburger for distribution to several groups around Wayne County including: People to People, the Salvation Army, Apple Creek United Methodist Church, and Dalton Presbyterian. This generous donation provided over 2,000 protein portions for the hungry of the community. God is Good!
Ohio Division of Wildlife Gives $25,000 to Help Feed the Hungry
Jan 19, 2023 | News
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources(ODNR) Division of Wildlife has contributed $25,000 in a grant to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) to support local food banks with donated venison. The organization will use the funding to pay for white-tailed deer harvested by hunters to be processed and distributed to charitable organizations in Ohio. Additional funding will be secured by FHFH with a goal to match or exceed the amount provided by the grant.
Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry, assisted by the Division of Wildlife’s grant, covers the processing cost for deer donated by hunters for the program. FHFH expects to pay the processing cost for 350 deer with this grant alone, each of which yields approximately 50 pounds of venison and 200 meals.
“This generous grant from the Ohio Division of Wildlife will help the hunters of Ohio provide nutritious meat for thousands of meals to the hungry,” said FHFH Executive Director Josh Wilson. “Support from the Division has been instrumental in helping our program expand to serve the needy in so many communities across the state. We are very grateful for their continued partnership!”
“I’m proud that the Division of Wildlife and Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry can combine their resources to put even more venison on the table for the people who need it most,” said Division of Wildlife Chief Kendra Wecker.
The mission of the Division of Wildlife is to conserve and improve fish and wildlife resources and their habitats for sustainable use and appreciation by all. Visit wildohio.gov to find out more. ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR website at ohiodnr.gov.
