Ausherman Family Foundation Grant to provide over 10,000 Servings
Oct 7, 2021 | News
“We are so grateful for the faithful partnership of The Ausherman Family Foundation over the past 16 years! Their generous support has enabled us to provide 75,000 servings of nutritious meat to the hungry of the Frederick area.”
FHFH Director Josh Wilson
Protein and meat products are one of the top items needed by food banks. The expensive price of meat and its limited shelf life prevent it from being a readily accessible food item by food banks. The meat donated to the food banks and feeding ministries by FHFH will help provide much needed nutrition to people in need. On behalf of FHFH and those in Frederick County who struggle with hunger, we thank The Ausherman Family Foundation for their generosity and support of our mission to end hunger.

2020-2021 Results: 79 Tons of Meat Distributed
Sep 9, 2021 | News
“We are grateful for the support and participation of so many hunters, farmers, and financial supporters this past year! Fresh, nutritious protein items are always needed by local feeding programs and ministries,” said FHFH Executive Director Josh Wilson. “And the COVID-19 pandemic made things worse by increasing the rate of food insecurity across the nation even more.”
Deer, elk, and various types of livestock were donated by generous hunters and farmers to butcher shops participating with FHFH across 14 states. One successful youth hunter named Andrew said, “I donated the buck and one of my two does because we don’t need a lot of meat and it is for a good cause.”
Financial contributions from individuals, churches, businesses, organizations, and foundations paid for these donations to be processed into nutritious meat for distribution to the needy of local communities. A representative of the Bloomfield Food Pantry in Indiana said, “We were almost out when you called and offered the meat to us. Just about everybody that comes to the pantry wants a pound or two of venison each visit.”
A volunteer with a school food pantry shared this message after delivering meat and other items to a local family in Maryland. “As we were stepping away, a little girl about 11 or 12 opened the door, saw the boxes and shouted excitedly into the trailer, ‘We’ve got food!’”
Sadly, there is always significant need for food assistance across our country. It takes dedication and effort from various organizations and ministries working together to help meet this tremendous need each day. FHFH is ready to continue making a positive impact against hunger – one life and one family at a time.

Providing Meat for Victims of Domestic Violence
Sep 2, 2021 | News
The Caring Place, Inc. provides inclusive service, shelter, and ongoing support for people experiencing domestic violence. Through advocacy, education, and awareness, they empower people to build supportive, respectful, compassionate relationships. Their organization primarily serves victims in Lake, Porter and Starke counties in Northwest Indiana, but may include victims across the country.
We received a note of appreciation from them for the donation of the meat processing cost for the steer:
Roy Wilson of the Porter County Buyer’s Group recently donated and delivered one 941 pound steer to The Caring Place in Valparaiso, IN. Roy passed along that Farmers and Hunters Feeding The Hungry donated the processing of the meat and we wanted to let you know how grateful we are. We’ve also publicly expressed our gratitude to all who made this possible on our Facebook page!
You will be receiving an official acknowledgement letter from our CEO in the mail, but we also wanted to personally contact you to let you know how meaningful this gift is to our shelter and the clients we serve. Thank you for working with Roy to make this happen. And thank you for all that your organization does to help organizations like ours and people in need.
With warm regards and gratitude,
Amy Blythe and The Caring Place
FCAA in Maryland Grateful for FHFH’s Venison Donations
Aug 26, 2021 | News
The Frederick Community Action Agency would like to express our deepest gratitude to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry for their support every year! Without your support, many of the families facing food insecurity in Frederick County would not have meat for their meals they prepare for their families. Also, deer meat provides the essential protein that we need and is so much healthier than processed meat.
Again, thank you very much for your continued support and we look forward to future donations from Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry! ~ Michele Ott, Frederick Community Action Agency

Since that time, FHFH has grown into a nationwide initiative – saving countless lives and combatting food insecurity every single day.The virtual awards presentation video can be viewed below (Rick’s segment begins at the 4 minute mark).
“This final round of 2020 honorees showcases the best and brightest spirits of their communities. They stepped up to provide critical resources and create pathways for vulnerable neighbors, friends and families facing life and death struggles. It’s my honor to recognize their efforts in memory of the late Governor William Donald Schaefer and his ‘Do It Now’ approach. Today’s award recipients embody his spirit. They recognized the needs of their communities, took action and continue to inspire the rest of us to face and address our challenges.”
