FHFH has been awarded a $2,000 grant from The Frederick Mutual Insurance Company Donor Advised Fund of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
This generous grant will help in the fight against hunger by enabling FHFH to provide additional protein-rich meat to local food banks and feeding ministries, ensuring those facing food insecurity have access to essential nutrients.
“Protein is often one of the most challenging items for food banks to secure due to its cost and perishability,” said FHFH Executive Director Josh Wilson. “Thanks to Frederick Mutual Insurance Company’s support, FHFH can bridge this gap and help ensure our neighbors in need have access to a balanced and healthy diet.”
Frederick Mutual Insurance Company established this fund in 1994 with the purpose of providing resources and support to nonprofit organizations meeting needs in communities across Frederick County enabling a ministry of care, which Frederick Mutual strives to promote from both an employee and business perspective.
FHFH, along with the countless individuals and families it serves, extends its heartfelt gratitude to The Frederick Mutual Insurance Company Donor Advised Fund for their commitment to supporting a hunger-free Frederick County, Maryland.

Deer can present a significant challenge to farmers due to crop damage. Farmers, hunters and meat processors can partner to help control the deer population and feed the hungry. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources helps manage deer damage by issuing special year-long permits for farms that have crops damaged by deer.
In the episode, Josh Wilson, Executive Director of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry, shares how deer donated to FHFH by hunters helps feed the hungry as well as control the deer population.

Food Pantry Appreciates Donated Venison
Apr 3, 2025 | News
Mid-Shore FHFH donated venison to a Maryland food pantry and received this note of appreciation:
“The Mid-Shore Meals Til Monday Vienna Pantry is open every Friday 3:00 to 5:30 pm. The pantry serves on average of 150 families per week including some families with 5 or more children in the household. This year the pantry was blessed to receive approximately 1,100 pounds of donated venison from FHFH and the coordination of Amy Cawley. The donations were made by Tuckahoe River Deer Processing, Duck Stop Butcher Shop, and Preston Custom Butcher Shop.
The donated venison came at the prime time to help out our families because the MFB was extremely low on available meat at the time. If it were not for FHFH and Amy, there would have been several weeks the pantry would have been unable to provide a protein source to the families in need.
The pantry’s mission of feeding the hungry was accomplished through the generosity of FHFH and the local community was thrilled to receive the excellent meat source from locally sourced and processed butchers. I sincerely hope that this program continues to feed the families in need.
Thank you!”

Mid-Shore Community Foundation Awards $5,000 Grant to FHFH
Feb 13, 2025 | News
The Mid-Shore Community Foundation has generously awarded a $5,000 grant to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH), supporting the organization’s mission to provide nutritious meat to food banks and feeding ministries serving those in need across the Mid-Shore region of Maryland.
Protein-rich foods, particularly meat, are among the most in-demand items at food banks. However, the expense for high quality meat often makes it difficult for food assistance programs to secure an adequate supply. With this funding, FHFH will continue its vital work of delivering essential nutrition to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
“Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry exemplifies the power of community-driven efforts to support neighbors in need,” said Josh Wilson, Executive Director of FHFH. “We are incredibly grateful to the Mid-Shore Community Foundation for their generosity and commitment to our mission of fighting hunger in the region.”
Established in 1992, the Mid-Shore Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to enhancing the quality of life throughout the Mid-Shore Region of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Talbot Counties. The Foundation works with donors to establish funds for the region – funds that are distributed as grants and scholarships, provides training programs and endowment management services to area nonprofits, and supports start‐up charities and local charitable projects through fiscal sponsorship.
Guided by a passion for the outdoors and a deep commitment to alleviating hunger, FHFH has been making a difference since 1997. To date, the organization has provided more than 23.2 million servings of meat to food-insecure communities nationwide. To learn more about FHFH’s impact, visit FeedingtheHungry.org.
