Trey Hopkins, Lowcountry FHFH coordinator in South Carolina recently visited Meals on Wheels of Summerville and shared his humbling experience:
It is always amazing to visit groups who help feed the community with the venison that is donated by local hunters with the help of Cordray’s Processing and our local FHFH program Lowcountry FHFH (SC-06). I had the privilege of meeting some awesome people who work with Meals on Wheels of Summerville which has been feeding the Lowcountry since 1982.
Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday they distribute roughly 250 meals and I look forward to a continuing partnership with Meals on Wheels of Summerville and good things to come with some shared fundraising events!
Like our local chapter of FHFH they rely entirely on private funding and help from the community to keep the meals rolling out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The meals are all prepared by Chef Ryan who left the upscale restaurant world to follow a calling to simply feed the people who might not eat otherwise. A humbling part of my visit was when I heard they are much more than a food delivery service and that they spend time at the client’s home to interact with some who are truly lonely.
