The Ohio Division of Wildlife has renewed its partnership with Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) by awarding us a $30,000 grant to support our mission of combating hunger across the state this year.
FHFH encourages hunters to donate their harvested deer to participating local butcher shops to help people in their communities struggling with hunger. The organization pays the participating butchers a discounted rate to process the donated meat for distribution to those in need by local food banks and feeding ministries. Venison is a valuable source of protein for individuals and families facing food insecurity, and this initiative helps ensure that people in Ohio in need have access to wholesome, locally sourced food.
This grant funding will assist FHFH in paying the meat processing costs for additional donated deer, enabling more hunters in Ohio to participate.
“We are honored to continue working with ODOW to serve Ohio communities,” said FHFH Executive Director Josh Wilson. “This grant will enable us to provide thousands of meals to those struggling with hunger while fostering a meaningful connection between hunters and the communities they support.”
With food insecurity affecting many Ohio households, this collaboration exemplifies how conservation, community, and compassion can come together to make a difference. For more information about FHFH and ways to get involved, visit www.feedingthehungry.org.
