The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded a $22,500 grant to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH). FHFH is dedicated to reducing hunger by providing nutritious meat to food banks and feeding ministries. This generous funding will help us expand the organization’s mission of feeding individuals and families in need by paying for additional donated deer to be processed by our participating local butchers across the state.
FHFH encourages hunters to donate their harvested deer to FHFH to help their neighbors struggling with hunger. Through partnerships with participating meat processors, donated deer are processed and the meat is distributed to local hunger relief organizations, ensuring that those struggling with food insecurity have access to high-quality protein.
Maryland DNR’s support highlights the positive impact Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry has on communities in Maryland. By utilizing game meat, FHFH not only helps alleviate hunger but also contributes to wildlife management and reduces waste. The grant will cover the processing fees for donated deer so there is no cost to the hunter to donate or the food bank and feeding ministry who receives the much needed meat.
“We’re incredibly grateful for Maryland DNR’s continued support,” said Josh Wilson, FHFH Executive Director. “This funding allows us to extend our reach and help more Marylanders who are facing food insecurity.”
As food insecurity remains a pressing issue for many, partnerships like this demonstrate the power of collaboration in addressing hunger. The grant will enable FHFH to provide thousands of pounds of nutritious meat to communities throughout Maryland, offering hope and sustenance to those who need it most.
